OUR STORY
In 2018, residents in Wilsons Creek, Mullumbimby, banded together to take on the Federal Government and Australia’s largest telecommunications company to stop a phone tower from being built in their beautiful community.
This was after discovering that, at best, Microwave Radiation is a class 2B potential carcinogen (as listed by the World Health Organisation), and, at worst, a definite carcinogen and toxic to all life.
They took on the fight of their lives – and won.
WHERE WE ARE TODAY
Since then, the group has evolved into Environment and Communities Safe from Radiation (ECSFR), a fiercely independent 100% volunteer-run charity.
We support our claims with references to expert evidence and call for a need to fully understand risk, and the management of risk, before deciding to ban or accept new technology.
Our mission is to ensure that environment and communities are safe from exposure to harmful microwave radiation, which medical professionals predict is the new “smoking”.
Harmful Microwave Radiation will be far worse than smoking because it’s everywhere. Not only that, it’s forced upon us and our children by governments supporting industry profit motives, while ignoring our human rights and our democratic right to consent.
KEY ECSFR ACTIONS
Much of our work is centred around the risk of wi-fi in schools and the risks of 5G. We provide information and ‘take action’ packages to countless communities across Australia, and are not afraid to stand up to government and industry to protect our children.
We connect with lawyers, scientists and doctors around the world to inform our strategic campaigns. We lobby local, state and federal authorities, regulatory bodies and the telco industry, taking legal action when needed to instigate genuine reform.
At a time of relentless technological change, ECSFR exists to protect our health, safety and human rights in relation to microwave radiation.
ECSFR exists thanks to a group of tireless volunteers and alliances with a national network of administrators and other community-based organisations. As a fiercely independent, non-political charity, we do not promote products or services, just results! However, we rely on YOUR generous support to keep our campaigns alive.

To ensure microwave radiation (RF) is regulated in a manner similar to a poison (e.g. alcohol) in the home and school and dangerous substances (e.g. poison) or dangerous tools (e.g. power tool) in the workplace. Children are most susceptible to biological changes, whilst adults in the workplace should subscribe to informed consent and dosages should be prescribed generally for all members of the public. To this end, the regulation of gambling or alcohol could be a socially acceptable model to minimising harm from wireless devices, radiation towers close to a school, but at a safe distance as defined by medical and other independent experts.

Lobby the NSW Department of Education to:
a. Remove wi-fi in schools and replace with hard-wiring of all computers, smart boards and other internet enabled devices within the school.
b. Educate principals, parents, children and staff on the probable harm from microwave radiation, and how to minimise exposure at home, in schools and in the workplace.
c) Ensure that schools’ liability and workers compensation insurance covers progressive diseases and immediate harm that may be caused by exposure to microwave radiation.
d) Introduce safe use policies and procedures (such as proximity of laptops, etc from a student’s eyes), and risk management guidelines in schools.
e) Introduce reporting of child and staff incidents to the Office of the Federal Government’s Chief Medical Officer.
f) Introduce guidelines to disable teachers’ mobile phones during class time.
g) For all age groups up to 18 years, completely exclude the use of smartphones for educational purposes.
h) Maintain the Department policy to not have a microwave radiation tower close to a school, but at a safe distance as defined by medical and other independent experts.
